2nd Grade Chapter Books

Hello! I was told at my school that the reading books will eventually end sooner then expected. So I have to stop my reading and choose a chapter book and read that with the students. I've been looking online and I haven't found any chapter books just books that are 60-80 pages. Does anyone have any ideas on what books to read? Thank you.

Marvin Redpost series
Horrible Harry series
Chalkbox Kid
Cam Jansen series

These are the books that I start my students out with chapter books on because I don't like the grammatically incorrect writing of the Junie B. Jones books. I think that you have to read a couple of the Boxcar Children books aloud before the students can just jump right into that series.

What do you mean when you say the reading books will eventually end sooner than expected? Do you mean that you will finish them before the year ends? Is there a particular reason you are expected to use chapter books? I try to use trade books at least one week out of each month. We've done author studies, book clubs with fiction and nonfiction, read various other books, but I generally don't use chapter books. I did do Flat Stanley, but most of my kids could not read it independently, so I had to read it to them.

Jigsaw Jones and A to Z Mysteries are both popular series with 2nd graders.

My higher readers also liked the Judy Moody and Amber Brown series. I don't know if you were looking for books for small leveled groups or for the whole class.

Well I teach at a private school and it's very tiny, so tiny that I have 3 students. Yea you read correctly 3 students. I have a student that is basically ESOL, she can read very little words in english, but when read to she understands, another student that is a repeat of the 2nd grade so she reads really well and the other student he reads fine, but when it came to dibeling not all that great.
So what I do is that I read on Monday the story of the week and then Tuesday & Thursday the students read the story and Wednesday they hear it on tape. To answer a question that was postes is that I read the basil series and they are not going to be enough for the end of the year. I will finish the series before the end of the year. The 1st grade teacher told me this week, so what I have in mind is after the Thanksgiving break to read a chapter book.
I what to thank all of you who have responded to my message. I really appriciate it.

I understand having the basal series end before the end of the year. I plan on doing author studies, integrating science and social studies into the reading/language arts block.

reading material

You may want to invest in a subscription to reading a to z online.

This way you can have books that you need that are just right regardless of the students reading level.

With only three students, you could have them all reading different materials.

With reading a to z, you could get MANY books to help fill in your program through out the school year.

Phonics lessons, leveled books, vocabulary, and reader's theatre...
