I am working on a reptile and amphibian unit. If anyone has any ideas or lessons, I would love to hear them.

Thanks

Have you considered tying it in with your state's official reptile and amphibian? That might be one fun approach.

BTW, here in Georgia:
state reptile is the gopher tortoise
state amphibian is the green tree frog

And of course, visual aids are always a treat! Can a local conservation group or museum bring these "guests" to your class?

I just read the book "Chameleons are Cool" by Martin Jenkins to my class today. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend you get it from the library and enjoy it with your class. It is informative and has great, fun art. Water color painting would be super to follow the reading of this book. Good luck, Terri

What a great way to tie in expository books!!! Start off with a KWL chart of what kids know, what to know, and later what they learned about amphibians and reptiles. I don't know what grade you teach but you could tie in the Frog and Toad books as your language arts. Never Kiss an Alligator is another expository book on the 2nd grade level that is great. I would almost separate the unit into two--one amphibian and one reptile because you could get into dinosaurs as well.
