Announcing Pregnancy to Class

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has a good way to share their pregnancy with their class AND a letter that they sent home to the parents. I am not looking for something elaborate but rather a creative idea.

For my first pregnancy, I was teaching 1st grade so it was easy, we read a picture book that talked about having a new brother or sister. I still have the book but since I am teaching 4th grade now, it would not be appropriate. As for the letter, I can't seem to find mine anywhere which is why I am coming to my friends here at ProTeacher.

Thanks in advance!

"Wheel of Fortune"

It might not be as exciting as some ideas you'll receive, but I played a version of Wheel of Fortune with my upper elementary kids. I used a phrase like, "Your teacher is having a baby in May." It's simple, but the looks on their faces as they caught on was priceless!:D I never did send a letter home so I can't help you there. Have fun telling your class - it's quite a blast!!!

Telling Class

The first time my mom had sent the "baby" a card. It said our last name and Baby. I had the kids play a 20 question game until they came close. It was sooooo funny the things they came up with. Needless to say they were super shocked.

With DS I played Hangman on the board. It was kind of spur of the moment bc I was planning on waiting a little longer to tell them, but I was getting bigger faster and sick a lot.

I just thought of something that would work with 4th graders. Go to puzzlemania.com and make a word search. The one that has a hidden message in it. Once they find all the words the message is made out of whatever letters are left.

Your message could be Mrs. _____________ is having a baby!!!

I think I want to do that one next time, if there is a next time!!!

Congrats on baby! <!--lovestruck--> How old is your other one?

I also played hangman but I realy like the idea of the hidden message word search. My principal sends home a letter to my student's parents. You might want to ask your principal about this.

my son

Currently my son is 4 and will turn 5 about 3 months after the baby is born. He is wonderful and seems excited about the fact that there is a baby in mommy's belly but only time will tell!

I am hoping that since he is older he will adjust well to having a new brother or sister but I know it can go either way!
