I teach art for Kindergarten and 3rd graders. The topic for October is African American Masters. I can't seem to come up with very many ideas that would be fun yet informative for these grade levels. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to hearing them.

I always use www.artcyclopedia.com when I need info on famous artists. It has tons of different catagories for artists. For kinder, you could find some art that has a common theme and talk about that and then do a project using the same theme. Perhaps there are several pictures by African American artists that focus on families.

How about African masks? They could look at pictures of masks and African designs then create their own.
