My husband and I are torn on baby names. Here are our choices. Which do you like for girl and boy?

Girl: Sydney, Sophia (Sophie), Julia
Boy: Gabriel (Gabe), Nathaniel (Nathan), Benjamen (Ben)

Unusual names

Julia and Gabriel. I love unusual names that you can be sure you won't have four of in your classroom. I remember one year I had 4 Jason's, 2 Jennifer's, a Jody, and something else that started w/J.

When choosing a name for their baby, my brother said he was looking for something timeless. He's a dentist and said every time he has a new patient, he knows their approximate age by their name--young if it's Tiffany, old if it's Bertha. They chose Emily--popular now, but it's been around for awhile--there are old Emily's, too. That's kind of what I think of your choices--beautiful names that've been around awhile.

I like

Sophie and Nathan. I base this solely on experiences with students. (That's why I can't choose Sydney, Ben, or any form of Julie!!) ;)

That is so true Kiki

Therefore, I could never name my kids Rebecca, Sebastian, or Jack!

I like Sophia for a girl. I can imagine a very sweet little girl with that name.

I also like Nathan for a boy (not shortened to Nate though!)

We've got TONS of babies named Gabriel, Ben, and Julia lately. The Nathaniels and Sydneys are in middle school now.

This is a fun place to search names. It gives their popularity over time. http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html

It's really good for those looking for a "non-trendy" name. My first name hit the height of popularity around 1908, which probably explains why the receptionist at my new doctor's office kept saying, "Fill out this form for HER and tell HER that . . . ". Finally I said, "There is no 'her'. I'm the patient." She blushed and said that the name made them think of someone older. My middle name is pretty timeless, however I go by a version that was popular in the 60's and 70's . . . and I was born in the 70's--with five others with my same name in my class. My college roommate and I even had the same name.

Last year I had three Brittany's, three Cody's, two Justins, and two Amanda's in one class. I nearly lost my mind trying to keep them straight. This year I'm overrun with Shannon's and Keisha's.

Thanks for the comments about the "popular names", that you could never name your child...sniff...sniff...it's a good thing I have a hard shell...lol ;)

I have a Sophia, Benjamin, and Sydneyin my class this year and my best friend's son's name is Nathaniel.
My favorite is Sophie. I really like the form Sophie better than Sophia. (we call the one in my class Fia). Boys names, I'd have to say that I like Gabriel the best.

What are some unique names that some of you like?

My favorites right now are: Landon, Lyndon, Tinsley.

I like Sophie for a girl and Gabriel for a boy, but Gabe is getting very popular. We're naming our little girl Ainslee Clare!

One of my favorite students ever is named Julia. I like the name Nathan but not Nathaniel. Don't you wonder what celebrities were thinking when they give their babies weird names? You could go the weird celebrity route and name your baby Rocketship Candyland or Umbrella Cinnamon. I actually saw a show on VH1 about weird celebrity baby names. Rachel Griffiths named her son Banjo and the actor who plays Earl on My name is Earl named his son Pilot Inspektor.

Sophia is prettier than sophie I think. Julia is also very pretty. I'm not a fan of the boy names. (sorry) Congratulations on your future bundle of joy.

Sydney. I have 2 Sydneys this year. One spelled Sydney and the other Sydnie. Both very sweet, loveable little girls. I have also had 2 Julias, again very sweet girls. I've never had Sophia, but ver pretty.

I like Gabriel a lot. I've never had one in class, though. I've had Nathans, all good boys, and 1 Ben, another sweetie. Looks like you have some good names!

I myself named my kids, very easy, simple to spell, and easy to tell if they are boys or girls names. I have a name that is long, spelled oh so many different ways, and usually cut in half!:)
