We have the Dyson Slim. We like it a lot because it's light and very maneuverable thanks to the ball it rides on. that being said, it's just an expensive hunk of plastic. I think there must be plenty of comparable vacuums out there at a fraction of the cost. And for a moment let's say that the Dyson lasts an amazing number of years. And let's also say that a cheaper vacuum does not last quite as many. That being said, you could buy a new vacuum every couple of years and come out ahead.
We have an Oreck.....not quite as much $ as a Dyson....and I love the Oreck. But everything about a more expensive vacuum is expensive.......even the replacement bags for our Oreck are more money than bags for other vacuums.
My Dyson is awesome. We have had it for almost 3 years and it still works like new. My dog sheds a ton and it gets up all the dog hair without a problem. I have the yellow one.
I have a 25 year old Kirby that my MIL gave to me. I LOVE it. Only the is that it's heavy and noisy. I wouldn't recommend it if you have stairs. Also, only an authorized Kirby dealer will have the vacuum bags.
I heard through the grapevine on television that a Dyson isn't that much better than a regular vacuum.
I absolutly love my dyson, I have had it for over 4 years now-- it works fantastic and gets all the kids hair and cat hair. It also transitions from carpet to hard floor, which is really great for my house. And my favorite part is that it is hot pink with sparkles on it. How queenly is that!
It amazes me how much I enjoy using my Dyson. My husband and I used to tease that we'd never divorce because one of us would have to have the kids all by ourselves - spooky. We'll stay together for now for the Dyson.
Yes, it was expensive, but I was replacing my vacuum every other year. I have had my purple Dyson for 4 years and it works just as well as the day I bought it. It's light and easy to use. I have cats, so we are vacuuming up a lot of pet hair and the Dyson handles it very well.
I just bought the Dyson canister. I haven't had it long enough to really tell how much I like it, but it's doing a great job so far. It's expensive and it's too early to tell if it's really worth all the money. I bought it because it came recommended. Go online to Target and view all sorts of vacuums.
Good luck!
