Book Report Ideas

I teach 3rd grade and want to start assigning book reports to be done at home. Can anyone share with me what type of projects they have assigned and what to expect from a 3rd grader. I was thinking of giving them a choice of three different ideas to choose from and then was thinking for them to complete 2 book reports a month. Is that too much?I also teach 4th grade. I have done book reports in the past with my students. I haven't done so this year yet. Here are some suggestions......

Book Reports for a 3/4 blend

I taught a 3/4 blend last year. There really is a lot of difference between the two, especially at the beginning of the year. How about one report per month for the 3rd graders, and two per month (except Dec.) for the fourth graders. I would also vary the extent of the report, simple sometimes, more complex others. You want to make sure it doesn't drain effort from other activities.

By genre

I do book reports by genre. I assign one a month to my second graders. October is Fiction, November is nonfiction, etc.

March, April, and May are self chosen by have to complete a specific report, such as character tube puppet.

I give my class a list at the beginning of the year and have them choose a different one every month. They may not repeat.
