chalk write markers

Today while in StarBucks, I actually asked one of the employees about the very cool markers they use on their boards. She showed them to me. They are purchased through StarBucks but I saw them advertised as "Liquid Chalk" for $36.00 online. Have you ever used it? It looks very interesting!

Love Those Markers!!!

I've been in many classrooms that use super cool neon coloured markers on the boards. I always notice the markers as I first walk into the classrooms, they're so bright its like their screaming at me. I asked a teacher what they were called - "Bright Sticks" they're flourescent markers. I'm not sure of the price I think they're probably around the same as for the "liquid chalk" markers you mentioned. I wonder about taking them off the board - if the marker is hard to wash off??

In my opinion, these markers make the dusty old blackboard look so tidy, spectacular and easy to read!!! I'm definitely snatching a bunch for my classroom if I ever get enough courage to apply for a long term position. HAHA!!! For now, I'll stick with supplying I just love the flexibility!!

Forgot to mention:

I think these markers are a great idea especially for writing things that need to remain on the board for days/weeks (eg. job chart, agenda, spelling words, etc.). Chalk rubs off so easily if you rub up against it and it just looks messy, whereas these markers stay perfect until rubbed off.

bright sticks

are not quite the same, they're made for "blackboards" (like whiteboards only black) and they wash off, not wipe off. I didn't know they would work on a chalk board.

They're not that expensive.. about 20.00 for a pkg. of five - yellow, pink, white, blue and green. You can get them at most any office supply, they're made by Expo - I got mine at Sam's years ago...

I checked Expo's site.. it says you can use them on "colored dry-erase surfaces" - not sure that includes chalkboards. I'd be afraid they'd soak in, since they're very "liquidy."

I bought the Bistro Chalk Markers from a nearby teacher store. I picked one of each of the florescent colors and really love the way they write (they work like a paint pen), but I can't get them to completely come off the board and I've tried everything! There are no instructions on the actual marker on how to remove it from a blackboard.<!--misspeak-->

I don't think I'll ever use them again!<!--yuck-->

Bright Sticks

We used these all the time on our chalk boards. AWESOME! I just moved to a new building with only white boards so I just passed mine off....

Great for writing the assignment subjects on our assignment board -- then I would erase the assignments daily. I wrote the month and year and only rewrote the date and day. I had "IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY" at the top of our board that you saw when you first walked iin... and it stayed forever.

They wash off with a wet sponge and are FABULOUS! I think mine were $26 for a pack of 5 and lasted about a whole year and a quarter...before i had to replace my pink! :) White left some to be desired, but blue and yellow and green and pink are FANTASTIC!

an alternative

I've used window markers to do the same thing. Mine are Crayola. They are sold at lots of stores like Target, Walmart, etc. (maybe not same brand, but window markers). I use them to write on the window next to my classroom door and also on the blackboard. They erase with water or windex, so they're great for things that you want to stay up for awhile. The colors in my set are pink, yellow, blue, and green. They are very bright and are much cheaper than some of the other options mentioned.
