Chapter five

This chapter had lots of ideas in it. I realized through this chapter that my I can lists were not done correctly so we had to do some of them over again. I made the lists directions for each station rather than a list of choices for each station.

Many good ideas:
These are the ones I liked best:

Listening Station - I liked the idea of students being able to record books or parts of books. I was thinking about maybe having this be a commercial station as well. THe kids could make and record a commercial for a book that they have read. I am even thinking about asking the principal to play a couple on the PA system each week. This would encourage reading in all grades.

Handwriting Station - My students, being third graders, love handwriting and think cursive is a blast. This station will be of great use to me.

Newspaper - This is a station I think I will add next year. I like the idea of using real articles as well as student newspapers. I will also think about writing a quarterly newspaper. It might be a great grade level project.

Grammar station is a good idea, but I will have to think about how I would implement it in third grade.

Commercials on the PA

Tylana,

I love the idea of having your principal playing a couple of student-written or student-read commercials for books on the PA each week. Can really imagine the kids getting into that!

If you have access to computer for your kids, you could use the following link for cursive demonstrations in your handwriting center:
http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/cursive/animation/lowercase.htm

http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/cursive/animation/uppercase.htm

This chapter has some really good ideas for easy centers.

THanks but

SOVAY,
THanks so much for the wonderful sites. Unfortunately, we only have room for one computer in our classroom and we use it for our Reading Counts program. If only we had a lounge . . .

Yes, I feel your pain...

We, too, have a very limited number of computers in our very small, crowded classroom. I'm remembering these great sites from my days at a larger building equipped with a lovely lab. :(

Our district has been downsizing and facing severe financial problems for a few years. Sounds like you might be in the same boat.

Still.....it's a great handwriting site, if you can ever find a way to access it.
