computer help needed

The reason I quit FB not long after I got on it was to protect my privacy just not knowing enough about how to protect myself from people (like students) being able to get into my private life.

Little did I know that every single thing I do on the computer is on my history anyway!! I know that people can see what you've been on by looking at your history and I have never had anything to hide about that so never even thought about it. Call me naive but I did not realize that every one of my emails on my history can also be read!! How do I get rid of this stupid "history" thing anyway? My son uses my computer often when he is here but I don't see anything pertaining to what he does on it. He must know what to do to keep it private and I'm not going to see him for a few days so just wondering if someone can tell me how to get rid of this and keep it off. thanks

Go to your settings--

Not your main computer settings but your browser settings in whatever you use--Chrome, Firefox or IE. It would help to know which browser you use.

anyway, somewhere in there is a section for privacy. When you find it, it will ask you to choose how long to save your history, change that to 0 days. There may even be a box to check/uncheck with wording about allowing websites to track you.

You should also occasionally empty out your history, temp files and cookies. Not only will it protect your privacy a little more, it will probably speed up your computer.

What are your privacy concerns? Do you just not want other people who use you computer to see your history ?

If so you can just use a private window in your browser. They all have one ( I think...) . What browser do you use? In Chrome it's called an "incognito window" and it makes your browsing private. You select it from the tools ( wrench in the upper right hand corner for me.)

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to try them. My concern is not what anyone sees I have been on, my concern is that everyone of my emails is wide open to be read if you just click on it.

Do you log out of your email when you are finished with it? I just checked by signing out, then went back in my history to see if I could open my email. It asked for my password and did not go to the email itself.
