Costume ideas for Christmas program...

I teach music in a small community and my elementary Christmas programs are a big deal. I am required by my school to have a Christmas program with K-5th grade each year. I think it's pretty crazy but I love the school so I'll go with it. This is my second year there. This year, I'm splitting the kids up into 2 grades so the k-1st grade will perform and so on. Does anyone have any costume ideas? There are 350 kids total and I just don't know what to do for costumes this year. There are some skits in between songs so those kids will be dressed up. If you could help me out, it would be much appreciated. My e-mail address is kdwilson16@hotmail.com. Thank you so much and have a beautiful Christmas season! God Bless You!

What type of program

Are the kids singing songs, if so which ones? Let us know, I'm sure we'll come up with ideas....

The k-1st graders are singing Christmas humor songs like "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth"...

The 2nd-3rd graders are doing more sacred songs like "Little Drummer Boy" and "Silent Night" - they are also doing a Little Drummer Boy skit. I am priviledged to work at a school were my kids can do the Nativity scene...my 3rd graders are doing it this year. I have all the costuming for the Nativity.

The 4th-5th graders are singing "An Old Fashioned Holiday" and songs wishing everyone a Merry Christmas....

It's a random program so that's why I am struggling with costumes...

costumes

We are also doing more of a random program this year. We've decided to just have the kids wear red and green (hopefully Christmas type sweatshirts or sweaters). This will make it easier for everyone. I you want to be more specific you could have different grades wear one color like K-1st grade red, 2nd-3rd green, etc.

Since the kids that are doing the skits have costumes, it's not really necessary for everyone to have them.

We have also tried in the past to just have the kids wear a headpiece, not a mask because you can't see their faces. Things like headbands with mouse ears for the little ones that were singing a song about Christmas mice, Santa hats, reindeer antlers, elf hats, etc. We had parent volunteers make them.

I second the idea of headbands. I have used reindeer "antlers" made out of the students' hands. Just have them trace their hands on brown paper (with a partner), then cut out the hands and staple them to a green or red headband. If you want, you can use a "sticky dot" (I found extra large ones at an office supply store) and have the students put them on their noses. This is really cute and easy.

Good luck!

ideas

All I want for Christmas is my tow front teeth - Have the kids in 4 rows - top and bottom row wear red for lips, second from top all but 2 wear white and the two in the middle wear black
third row - all white - this should resemble a smile with missing 2 front teeth

Little Drummer Boy/Silent Night - have the kids wear a veil on their head boys in tan or brown like sheperds and girls in blue like Mary

An old fashion holiday - Have them wear their Sunday Best and girls wear a muff for their hands and the boys with top hats

Hi there at our school we have a christmas pagent too. Each grade some something different ex: Prek-rudolf(they sing the Roudoff song and other's too) the kindergartener's are shepards( they sing songs) and the girls are angels i believe. The 1st graders were kings and and I'm not sure what the girls were. 2nd graders do more 4 boys or drummer boys while others or somthing elese. There is also a live nativity at the end. Mary carries up a real new born. This year it is our new baby Lucie and my oldest boy is the little drummer boy for the live nativity..It is tmorrow so I can let you know more about what they do and wear later.
