Crazy Crazy Students

Just my day in a Second Grade General Education Classroom! Child takes (is permitted by administration) to take off shoes and socks, lay under the table and play on IPAD all morning. Another child making loud noises all day and refusing to do any classwork at all without one on one help. Student three smells like a wet cat so bad the windows have to be open. Student four yells across the classroom all day and I mean all day! Student five refuses to answer any question I ask her. Student six turns his back on me during instruction, jumps in the air, and dances around his desk. Student seven asks when is lunch at least five times before lunch and then after lunch asks at least five times when do we go home or can I use the bathroom because it is an emergency. Student eight is picking at his fingers and staring into space rather than doing any independent center work. Oh NO-the student laying under the desk has decided he will slam the door and run down the hallway yelling his teacher is a stupid b..ch....! No consequences for that because his parents will sue the district or file Harassment charges! Student nine is crying because he doesn't want to write and he apparently lost a nickle. Student nine threw a pencil across the room! I look around the room and Yes-I see the two students that fill my heart with pride because they are actually doing what they should be and are my only hope that someone will learn anything at all this year! This is not an exaggeration-this is the reality of a typical day in my classroom! On a bad day security is called and the class has to be removed for their safety because someone has exploded in anger! General Education-I repeat General Education Class!!

This is the reality in many classroom IMHO. I have a couple of classroom like that, one almost as bad as your and then the other. The rest are doing OK.

I know this is bad of me for saying this but here I go. Let's just put all of them in just one classroom. At least we would only have one intolerable classroom. But when you mix and match, they destroy the learning environment for everyone. what is worse, they incite others to join the misbehavior and disrespect that otherwise these students would have never attempted on their own. The next level of proximity works like a charm when it comes to misbehavior. I am tired of the fact that the rest of the students don't have any rights to learn of safety.

We need to reclaim our profession, we need to unite. We, teachers have rights.

Sounds like the 3rd grade class I had when I was dealing with pms.
I had a principal that did what poster is suggesting. All the a.....s....s....h
were put in one classroom per grade level and the teachers rotatated so everyone had a turn with “ That Class”

Reclaim profession

I wish I knew how to reclaim our profession! Our union does nothing except support political viewpoints and policies that do little to help teachers. The sad thing is all the kids suffer when teacher have no support from administrators and district big shots. Many parents are just plain disrespectful. Our new discipline policy is "Every Child Gets What They Need" apparently, many students need to curse, kick, scream, run, and do zero classwork or homework!

Are you in Pennsylvania? You've described the PSEA. Every time an election approached I got an email from them telling me what candidates to vote for.

Earlier in the school year I had a day at Every Child Gets What They Need Primary School. On this day I had breakfast duty, there was a student having a melt down because they ran out of pancakes. It took three adults to remove him from the area.

Long story short, principal spent half the morning tracking down the parent to gain permission to take the kid to McDonalds for pancakes. Because I had planning period when they returned I got stuck supervising the kid as he ate his pancakes with his hands. A fork, spoon, and knife were provided with the pancakes.

Pancakes

Not in PA in NJ. This country is losing its way! The crazies are running the asylum! This "Get What They Need" Discipline or Non-discipline plan starts at my district's free state funded preschool and has now spread to the elementary schools. I don't get it but I know it is a joke. Teachers and teaching has become a joke!
The other day a student sat in my teacher's closet throwing things across the room while calling me and other students stupid. The principal sat in the room and just watched him and told me to just keep teaching!
What the ......needless to say I do not expect to make my SGO's this year because of course with all this going on I am responsible for All Students Making Their Student Growth Objectives! Your Joking Right???Thank God for Tenure-because I have a family, car payments and a mortgage!

I Feel for You

I teach 3/4. I have daily communication with one parent because of the needs of her son. He is over the top. I have a very busy, bouncy class, but we mostly do alright. This kid this week looked my in the eye and said You look like sh**. Spoke to the child about inappropriate talk and never wrote a thing to mom about it, just that he used alot of profanity. Called his classmates asho**** and told another student f*** you bit**. It is daily. Mom wrote me a note that I hurt her son's feelings because I did not believe him that he was not directing it to me but talking about a movie he saw. He cried 3 times over this apparently. . He was looking me in the eye when he said it for goodness sake. Son said I was mean because I made his mom go to her bedroom and cry for 24 hours. I wanted to say, well can't fix crazy. This is why I am happy to be retiring. Not equipped to handle mental illness and I have quite a few in my class.

Can't Fix Crazy!

I understand. After a student in my class raged for about a half hour pulling down posters, ripping up papers, throwing books, tossing computers, and destroying classroom materials I was told he was upset because I yelled at someone!
Please! Just Please! The consequence for his behavior was absolutely nothing! Thank god the student has been out two days and counting this week. Apparently, the little cupcake gets upset when he has to come to school when the weather gets nice!
