Does anyone have a hybrid?

So I'm looking into getting a new car. My car is over 8 years old. I just had it in to get the power steering fixed and today it died because I'm having problems with the battery. Anyways, I was thinking about getting a hybrid. Yes I know that they are better for the environment, but I know that they also have better gas milage which is great because I have a longish (all expressway) commute. I know that they are more expensive, but in the long run it may be worth it because of high gas prices and I will keep it for a long time.

Does anyone have a hybrid? What kind? Do you like it?

Test drove one

My husband and I test drove a Honda Civic hybrid and were very impressed with it. The gas mileage is unbelievable and I too have a long commute!! The price wasn't bad but it was a 2007. It really depends on what make you get. Right now I can't get a good trade-in price for my car because of my mileage. I'm curious to see what others say and am still considering getting the Civic.

My sister has the Lexus hybrid. To be honest, she hasn't noticed a real difference...but they don't do too much long distance driving with it. She prefers her bug as far as the mileage goes!

I would like a hybrid but I need a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive for the winters where I live....and that model is just too expensive. I have a Vibe all-wheel drive and get about 29 mpg. It's a bit small for me and the kids but I like it.

Hybrids

I was considering getting one, but my father works at a Honda dealership, and he told me that you really don't save all that much money in the longrun, because there are some bugs that haven't been worked out yet. I'm not sure what all he was talking about. I just took his word for it.

06 Civic Hybrid

We have 2!! I love them. My husband drives 62 miles one way to work 6 days a week and he spends about $50 a week in gas. I was driving 45 miles 5 days a week to go to school until May and now that I have a job, I only have to drive 10 miles each way to work. If you are not driving long distances, I would say it is not worth the extra. But I can tell you that he traded an 06 Civic EX 5-speed in when we got the hybrid and the gas savings is substantial.

I would buy another tomorrow if I had too. The only negative I can think of is that it is smaller, but I traded my Honda Odyssey in for my Civic, but I don't miss putting gas in the Odyssey!!:)

PS...we also got a $2100 tax rebate(per car) on our income taxes for 2006 for buying the hybrids. This actually offset the difference in pricing!

I LUV my Prius

I've had my Prius for 4 years now! It has 80K miles on it since my commute is over hill and dale with a 60 miles round trip to school - oh yeah, I love it - and here in CA I have such a good time trying to get 50+ miles a gallon - the dashboard screen lets me keep track.
The recent ads mention that Prius owners would get another one - I'm already planning the color and accessories when this one gets too old!
And don't listen when non-hybrid users say these cars go too slow or are sluggish, if 66 mph up a hill is slow/sluggish, well then, they're probably paying too much insurance for all those speeding tix.
HA HA:)

Get a Hybrid! :)

I have a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. I love my car. It gets wonderful gas mileage and looks nice. I will never, ever, ever go back to a non-hybrid again!

battery

My neighbor bought a hybris Prius.. and he said the battery is 3500$ and he would never save that kind of money in the 2 years between new batteries.. So that ruled then OUT for me!!
