Dreaded Appt

I have the dreaded female appointment tomorrow morning. <!--ouch--> Am I the only one that hates going to the gyno. My doctor is the nicest person in the world but I still hate to see that date come around each year. If it was not so important, I would never go again. LOL

Been there, done that recently. Hate it, too. I try not to think about it until I actually arrive at the doctor's office. I keep in mind how important it is and that it's a once-a-year thing. But it stinks!

THE Appointment...

Mine was last week.<!--yuck-->

I'd much rather go to the dentist -- they at least give you gas!!!

I dread it too and always treat myself to something special afterwards- shopping, a pedicure, etc. I focus on that during the appointment to get by!

I'm on my third IVF cycle so I've had more people view my hooha than visit this website every day. At this point I'm so used to "showing the goods" when I go to the doctor that I'd probably start looking around for stirrups at the eye doctor.

Yearly

When I first started going I used to make myself sick thinking about it. This would start WEEKS before the appt.

Now after 2 kids it's the one place that I get to at least go by myself to! I even get to take a little nap while I wait for the dr.

I agree treat yourself to a pedi or something after.

Everyone hates it

I just had mine and because I have a fibroid I have to go twice as often so they can take an ultrasound of the @$(@ thing. Now my gyno wants me to get a colonoscopy. Lucky, Lucky me! I agree with the idea of treating yourself to something nice.

twice this year

Yes, I went over the summer and it came back abnormal so then I had to go again  and get a biopsy done (it ended up being a "routine" infection - nothing to worry about). Now, I have to get ANOTHER ONE in December  to make sure that everything is back to normal, UGH <!--yuck-->

That will be a total of 3 invasions in 2007 - not hoping for a repeat of that record anytime soon LOL

I had to cancel mine for tomorrow because Aunt Flo was late and decided to show up just in time for it.....I am rescheduled for Jan 2. Happy New Year to me! <!--yuck-->

My GYN has a sign tacked to the ceiling above her tables that you don't see until you lay down. It says I REALLY HATE THIS :D

doctor makes the difference

I used to dread this, too. Now, for the past 4 years, I've had a different doctor. She makes all the difference. It doesn't bother me a bit to go. She's just very informal, like talking to a friend. She does her thing quickly, and I'm back out the door.
My sister was complaining about having to go for her annual exam and how much she hated it. I told her it was no big deal and I didn't mind it...she looked at me like I was crazy! I talked her into trying my doctor. Now she's been twice, and both times she's called me afterwards to thank me for telling her about my doctor. I guess I'm spoiled with my wonderful doctor!:D

love my doc too

I love my new doctor too. She's also super fast. My old doc seemed to take forever. He kept the scapula in there for way too long. With this new doc, she's in and out before I even realize it. I still hate going, but after having a baby it's not as bad as it used to be. I once had an ovarian cyst and the dr. couldn't find it. He suspected it, but an early US ruled it out so we started testign for other things that came back negative so he kept checking just to make sure. I had pelvics done at least twice a month trying to get everything figured out.

Ceiling

My doctor put translucent plastic panels over the flourescent lights. They have ocean scenes on them so you have something pleasant and relaxing to look at while he does his thing.

I agree that the doctor makes all the difference. I had one that I loved when I worked in NYC. WHen I left my job I asked a coworker for a recommendation and she recommended a her doctor. I just didn't click with this woman. I found her cold and not really interested in answering my questions. I lifted my head up off the table to ask her a question and she snapped at me that she wasn't done and hadn't my old doctor done the exam this way? I asked my primary doctor for a recommendation and I really like my new gyno. He talks to you like he has all the time in the world and is very thorough about getting your personal history. The other doctor acted like my questions were a nuisance and I was keeping her from something more important.
