Drug prevention programs

Does your school have a drug prevention program? I had a student tell me today that the first time he knew that his classmates was smoking marijuana was in the 4th grade. What happened to D.A.R.E.? It seems as if kids are learning and experimenting at an earlier age. Do elementary schools need stronger awareness and resistance programs?

Dare

We just finished a 4 week course of DARE in second grade. I think that officers are willing if schools ask them to come in. My second graders loved it. We also repeat it in 5th grade.

The poor student who knows his peer is smoking...that's a heavy burden. Hopefully someone can alert the teacher or parents, as this is serious and the student needs help.
