Eyebrows

Hi all, I need your advice about waxing/tweezing eyebrows. I am 25 and have never done this. I have dark blonde hair, so my eyebrows are actually pretty light and not really "bushy" or anything. I just feel that I would look older if I gave some shape to them. I am constantly getting told I look like I'm 14, and while in some ways it could be considered a compliment, I still would like to look more my age. I've done other things with hair and different make-up and feel this might help too.

The problem is, I don't know how to get started! I am terrified that I am going to mess them up if I do it myself. I am also scared of getting them waxed! (Plus I don't know if I can afford it) Do you have any suggestions for me? Is it worth it for me to even do? I want to try eyebrow pencils too but know nothing about this either.

Thanks!

Lisa

Wax Them

I usually have them waxed (around here it's only about $6-$10) then afterwards I try to keep them tweezed based off of the shape of the waxing, that way I can go longer between getting them waxed.

I get mine done too

Everytime I go get a haircut, I always get a wax too. Then I tweeze when needed in between. You feel like you got a facelift everytime. It doesn't hurt too bad. I couldn't do it myself because I don't think I could manage to get them even.

Waxing

I just got my eyebrows waxed for the first time about 2 months ago. I was scared, too, but it really didn't hurt that bad, and wasn't too expensive. $10. It was worth it! BUT, make sure you go when you don't have anything else to do, because my eyebrows turned bright red for a good five or six hours after it. The most painful part was afterwards...for some reason my skin swelled up and got itchy. I've been told this only happens the first few times. But, it wasn't that bad! I was told to just tell the person that you want them "cleaned up". That way, it won't be too drastic. Good luck!

I agree

I agree with the others. For the first time at least, go and have them done where you get your hair cut. That way you see how they probably should look. $10 is the going rate here. It is well worth it. I always feel like I have had a mae over when I get my hair cut and eyebrows done.

Tweezing

Since you've never done it before, I would suggest having them waxed first to get a good shape, and then maintain it with tweezers.

Where do you live? Do you have a spa or salon that does threading? Threading is an ancient Indian (India) technique where the hair si twisted in cotton thread and removed. I get mine threaded. It barely hurts at all, and they stay great for about 6 weeks.

Waxing

I get my eyebrows waxed every six weeks with my normal haircut/color and I tweeze in between to keep the shape up. It does hurt, but only for a second. Kind of like ripping a band-aid off, but a litle worse! I look back at pictures of myself before I started the waxing and I look like a totally different person. I pay $8. I would definitely go to a salon and have it done the first time, if not every time. Good luck!

Oh yeah, I have sensitive skin and my eyebrows get extremely red from the waxing. I can't stop anywhere on the way home from the salon because it looks very funny. If I have to go out that night, I have to apply some foundation or powder to cover up the redness.
