Favorite Christmas song?

Tis the season! I don't know about you but I LOVE Christmas music. A local radio station began playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving and everyone wrote the paper to complain. I don't get it - if you don't like it, don't turn it on! I don't mind listening to it "so early" because you can really listen to it for about a month. So many good songs, so little time!

Anyway, quick survey, what's your favorite song?

This is an unfair question!

I love so many of them! I guess if I HAD to pick, say, 5, they would be:

*Silver Bells by
*There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays
*Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
*Hard Candy Christmas by Dolly Parton
*Chestnuts Roasting by Carpenters

I also love anything by Bing Crosby and I am definitely partial to the Carpenters Christmas!

Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow

The weather outside is frightful,
but the fire is soooo delightful,
and since we've no place to go,
let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

You're asking ME...lol...

Being a music teacher, I feel like Christmas season lasts five months, not just one or two...lol.

I was just asked this question last year...so many to choose from...lol

My top ten would be:
1. O, Holy Night (I sing this one every year, at at least two or three churches, so I'm usually booked on Sundays before Christmas, and LOVE this song.)
2. Joy to the World
3. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
4. Little Drummer Boy
5. Mary, Did you Know?
6. We need a Little Christmas
7. Jingle Bell Rock
8. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
9. O Come, O Come Emmanuel
10. What Child Is This?

O.k...so I couldn't just stop at one...lol

"It Came Upon the Midnight Clear"

...and especially this verse:
And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low;
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow;
Look now! For glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing.
Oh rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.

Also, "Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne":
Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown
When Thou camest to earth for me.
But in Bethlehem's home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.
Oh, come to my heart, Lord Jesus! There is room in my heart for Thee.

O Holy Night

I have grown up loving Christmas music (my mom owns more than 100 Christmas CD's) and listening to it non-stop from the day after Thanksgiving until New Years Day. But I haven't really realized I have a favorite song until this year - "O Holy Night" - so beautiful! (In particular I love the Josh Groban version)

I also like some less common ones like "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)" by Amy Grant and "The Prayer" by Celine Dion w/Andrea Boccelli.

:s) My all time favorite is O, Holy Night. Mary, Did you Know? comes in second for me. I look forward to hearing these songs every year during the Christmas season. -|--

I Love.....

"Ave Maria," "Breath of Heaven," "What Child is This," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Christmas in the Caribbean" (I do dream of sandy beaches and sun), and "Deck the Halls" (the James Taylor version on his last year's Christmas CD from Hallmark). :)

Please Come Home for Christmas

I don't know if that's the official title, but it's definitely my all time favorite. My dad had a heart attack in his 40s, and he was in the hospital for Christmas (I was 18). That song came on and it says, "Please come home for Christmas..... if not for Christmas, by New Years Night". That's what I kept hoping for, and he did! He came home on New Years eve. It was really cool, and that song always reminds me of that time. By the way, praise God my dad just celebrated his 70th birthday a few days ago! :)

Some of the Christmas songs I don't know the names of. I feel ignorant, but I just never learned them, although I know the tune.

Favorites I know the names of:
- Angels We Have Heard on High
- Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Christmas Shoes

If you get a chance listen to Christmas Shoes by New Song, I cried the first time I heard it on the radio. It was so good I bought the CD. The entire CD has great Christmas songs on it and worth the twelve $.

Here are the words (it is better with the melody)
The Christmas Shoes - as sung by NewSong

It was almost Christmas time. There I stood in another line Try'n to buy that last gift or two. I'm really in the Christmas mood. Standing right in front of me Was a little boy waiting anxiously Pacing around like little boys do And in his hands he had A pair of shoes.

And his clothes were worn and old. He was dirty from head to toe And when it came his time to pay I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size. Could you hurry Sir? Daddy says there's not much time. You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes will make her smile And I want her to look beautiful If Momma meets Jesus tonight.

They counted pennies for what seems like years And cashier says son there's not enough here. He searches is pockets franticly And he turned and he looked at me And he said Momma made Christmas good in our house. Most years she just did without. Tell me Sir What am I gonna do? Some how I gotta buy her these Christmas shoes.

So I lend the money down. I just had to help him out And I'll never forget The look on his face When he said Momma's gonna look so great.

Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry Sir? Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes will make her smile And I want it to look beautiful If Momma meets Jesus tonight

I know I won't regret some help as he thanked me and ran out I know that God sent that little boy to remind me What Christmas is all about

I want her to look good If Momma meet's Jesus tonight.

to hoptech....and susanteach...

Hi, hoptech, my husband LOVES that song. He said the first time he heard it he was driving his hour and half commute to work at the time, and our little girl had been very sick, (knocking on death's door) all summer long, and it had been an exhausting year mentally and financially for us. He said he HAD NEVER cried at a Christmas song before, until he heard that one...and then every morning for the next four mornings on his commute to work, he'd hear it, and it was so sweet, he wouldn't turn it off, but he got to the point he started bringing a box of tissues, because he knew he'd be crying before it was over...lol.

Also, I've heard that song, SusanTeach, and I think that IS the title of it..."Please Come For Christmas".

Christmas Songs

So many songs, so little time! I have to say one that will always be close to my heart is 'Do You See What I See ...' Years ago, I worked at a private preschool for special needs children. I had a group of 2 & 3 yr. olds. For our Christmas program my little goup of 8 performed this - they were so cute! I wish I had a videotape of it!
