Hi Tiffany,

What state are you in?

First Snow Day here in Ohio, too. Yayyy! I am looking forward to a day by the fire, hot cocoa, and maybe putting the tree up.

Ice, Not Snow

Here in the foothills of NC we had a good old ice storm. No school, but my own children were disappointed. They wanted snow to play in today.

First Snow Day as Well!

Hey everyone! I have been enjoying my first snow day as well in Findlay, Ohio. I have been working on my final project which is due next week along with spending time with my boyfriend. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day!

Confussed in California

From the previous posts it sounds like snow days are a good thing. Being from California I have no idea how these days work. Do you get extra days off? Have to make the days up at the end of the school year? Other than the obvious, how is it determined that it is a snow day? After reading the excitement in the previous posts, I could use a snow day!!

Snow Days

I live 50 miles south of Pittsburgh in Uniontown, PA. We had our first snow day in October. We had a two hour delay today. It probably should have been cancelled because our roads were so icy this morning.

We do have to make up snow days. Usually we make them up at the end of the year or sometimes shorten some holiday weekends. One and two hour delays- we don;t make them up.

Hi there, California! For most of us, a snow day is like an unplanned bonus vacation. To have one fall on a Friday is like winning The Golden Ticket! Most schools only have to make up snow days if they have 4 or more, at least around here. The cats and I have been having a great day watching the birds at the feeders, although the cats are a little miffed that they can't go out and terrorize them.

To California

Here is how a snow day or delay is detemined. The Superintendent is in contact with the bus company, police chief, and weather stations. It's up to them to give him an evaluation of the road conditions in area. Most times they can have the roads cleared by 9-10 o'clock. If there is a prolonged heavy storm then they will cancel. However, that is avoided at all costs because you do have to make them up. The other thing they take into consideration is how parents are going to react since so many work. It can be a logistical nightmare.
The delays and cancelations are shown on TV in the crawl space(?what exactly is that called) at the bottom of the screen plus we have a scattergram that we receive our official phone call through. Where I live and work we have many hills and roads that can be very treacherous. We rely on state, county and town road crews. (The state run roads are always a mess.)-|--

Snow Day

Snow day in Cincinnati. The streets were pretty clear but temps were low. I cleaned and did some shopping.

New York

I'm located in Central New York. We got probably 8 inches from this storm - lucky for us it started about 4am and was pretty heavy for a while.

Hope you enjoyed your day!

Snow Day!

We got out at 2:30 last Wednesday (30 min. early-does that even make sense?), Thursday, and Friday. My youngest has been sick so I have been sequestered to the house. It was great not to have to use 2 sick days! Great timing! I work in a rural district where most kids live off of the main roads. It usually takes a day or two to get everyone "dug" out so we can have school again. We have snow days built in so it is really not a problem.
