First week of school

Hi Teachers! I am having trouble getting my plans started for the first week of school. I am teaching reading to grades 2, 3, and 4 and then 3rd grade math. I am wondering what other resource room teachers do the first week of class since we only teach certain subjects to the students and we aren't their classroom teacher. I am going on my 3rd year of teaching and still am struggling to figure out how to start the year off without jumping right into teaching. I would love to hear how other teachers start off.

Thanks,
Kim

baseline data

This is my 3rd year as a resource teacher and I am so glad I found this board! I teach k-3 reading, Math, & language. I'm looking forward to seeing what others are doing. I start out by assessing (informal, mostly verbal, checklists, etc.) my kids based on their iep goals. Then I can plan individualized instruction. I also get a copy of the teachers' lesson plans so I can at least introduce my kids to grade level skills. It's really a balancing act.

Dream Posters

We are a leadership school. See " Leader in Me". Each student will create their own Dream poster (collage) to reflect who they are and what their dreams are in life. This is related to Habit #2: Begin with the end in mind. While they are creating their dream posters, I will be collecting baseline data.

Leader in me

There are several books. You probably remember hearing about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. You would need a log in for the website. You can easily find it with a search.
