Does anyone have a good graph for kids to chart their words per minute on cold and hot reads? I can't seem to find one that is easy to use. Thanks for any help!

Read Naturally

Read Naturally has a great grid. It has a spot for both cold and hot reads. Maybe the RN website will have a sample. Hope this helps. It's a great visual for both student and the family.

Cold Hot

A cold read is where you time a student on a passage they have never read before. A hot read is where you time a student on a passage they have practiced. I color in a grid in blue for say 30 wpm. On the hot read I will color it in red so the student can see how many more wpm they read. The more authentic is the cold read.

read naturally

I checked the read naturally website and found a graph for students to chart their progress. The problem I am having is that the graph is in increments of 5 (ie. 5, 10, 15, etc). The first graders have a hard time figuring out where to stop coloring in their cubes unless they ended up with 30 wppm. If they read 32 wppm they cannot visually break the cube into 5 equal parts. We tried to make our own graph, but can't seem to get it just right. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Graphing wpm

Sorry the other site wasn't what you were looking for. Maybe you could go to Staples or office store. You could purchase graghing paper comes in many numbered increments. Hand write in a vertical line starting from one end.
1 4
2 or 3
3 2
4 1 and so on. Then photo copy and your child can color in each word square for each word read correctly. You might have a program that can creat a graphing grid on your computer. Hope this helps. PS. Thanks for taking the time to invest in your child's reading.
