We use F&P
We just of the leveling kits to use. Each teacher has a set. We have them for grade 1 and 2 as we have many readers reading above 2nd grade level in 1st, by Christmas.
We pull for small group reading based on students reading levels from the kits.
I highly recommend Jan Richardson's "The Next Step in Guided Reading" for support about what to teach each leveled group. Really dive into the book and utilize all the resources within it. Plus the videos provided with the book.
Make sure to do some word work were students build words like: at, cat, bat, mat, sat ask them to identify sounds that need to be changed to make the new words to hold them accountable and make them work harder for the answer than just saying, "take away the c and put b in the place". For higher levels pick 4-5 words with harder sounds patterns: high, sigh, sight, light, lighter. Changing on one sound at a time as they build them with magnet letters or on white boards.
