Grasshopper Theme

I am beginning a five week unit on insects. Each week we will be learning about a different insect and doing activities and projects related to that insect. I have lots of ideas for all of the insects except for Grasshoppers. I am also going to tie in Praying Mantises during this week. I thought we could compare and contrast the two. Other than that, I am at a loss. Does anyone have any cute art, math, or language arts ideas? Thanks in advance!

Spring is almost here and you can catch some different kinds of grasshoppers. Students will be delighted to catch and bring some grasshoppers to school... Make or buy a bug cage. Put some leaves and small tree branch in the cage. An old fish tank, with some colorful rocks in the bottom would be perfect. Put a piece of window screen over the top so they can't get out.

There are 12 other animals there also elephant, owl, hen, horse, worm, crab. These are all simple super neat patterns....
