Hi,

I am looking for a good read aloud for my fourth grade class. We just finished Fig Pudding by Ralph Fletcher- a sad book. I would like a book that deals with treating other people as you would want to be treated or a funny book. Any ideas? Thanks

great read aloud

The book "Because of Winn Dixie" has lots of treating others as you would like to be treated. Added plus is that the DVD is out and well done.
Enjoy

Read Aloud

I always read "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" and the class loves it! Currently I am reading Judy Blume's "Fudge Mania" and it's really cute too. We begin each year with "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." Please share with us what you decide on. Happy Reading!!!!

How about...

Darby- Deals with the treating people issue. Blacks vs. Whites in a small southern town my students really enjoyed it.

The Hank Zipper books are funny, quick read alouds, too.

Golden Rule

Loser by Jerry Spinelli is a good one. It goes through the elementary school career of a kid who is constantly being teased. The kids like it because it';s funny, but they begin to put themselves in the place of the main character.

My all time favorite read alouds are The Tale of Despereaux and The City of Ember

Bud, Not Buddy (HUGE FAN)

When your talking funny books, Bud, Not Buddy has to be on the top of your list....just make sure you have a Ticandaroga pencil handy to explain just how far the pencil went up his nose and that Roaches do scream a very high pitch noise especially when they get stuck in your ears!!

How much fun is that....plus it is historical fiction that takes place during the depression and it's about a kid that is 10 years old!

Seriously a book to use for lit. circles!!!

books

I am currently reading Where the Red Fern Grows to my class even though I know it is a tear jerker!!
I have also read:
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
The Thief of Always
There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom
Holes

I am going to read A wrinkle in time to them next... haven't ever read it before myself actually so I had better get a move on!

Now that I think of it all the books above have very strong male characters... maybe I need to pick a book with a strong female character.

The BFG by Roald Dahl is hilarious! My kids love it, and the giant speaks in such bad grammar, its fun to read!

One of the favorites of my class for several years now is Sideway Stories from Wayside School. I've used it as a read aloud for five years now and it's been voted one of the favorites each year.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Skinnybones have been popular too.
