I haven't tried this recipe, but just saw it yesterday on interest. :p I am with maxwell. I use the Nestle's recipe with butter flavored Crisco. It is hard to beat. Real vanilla helps, also.
Cake flour is just a less dense flour, but basically the same as bread flour. You could just sift your bread flour a few times before measuring and get the same results since it is just a cookie.

I used to use the recipe on the bag of chips. Now I buy the bag of cookie mix from Betty Crocker and get many more compliments.<!--giggle-->

Yep!

I Love it!! Use high end chocolate and it's even better (I mean chocolate that you can only get at speciality stores). The secret supposedly is the flour and cake flour and the chilling of the dough (the longer the better.) There was a blog I saw and the lady did cookie tests at the 8 hr, 12 hr, 18 hr etc mark to see the difference and there was. People always ask me for the recipe.
My DH birthday is today and he wanted me to make the toll house recipe and chill that for 24 hrs. He likes the chewiness of toll house so I guess we'll see which one is better. The dough is still chilling in the fridge. BTW the original toll house recipe told you to chill for 24 hrs to.

CC cookies

Cake flour? Bread flour? Are these sold at normal grocery aisles? Can I use just regular ole flour? They do sound tasty. Just what I need!<!--yawn-->

I didn't get started yet - I am just doing my lesson plans, then I will be DONE with all the schoolwork I brought home on break - but I plan to start making them tomorrow morning. Then I will actually bake them on Monday sometime.

I've heard these are hands-down the best cookies, ever. I like Tollhouse but I like to bake and would like to give this recipe a whirl.

I've been meaning to try to make these cookies since we had two weeks off (<!--grumpy-->) courtesy of Hurricane Sandy. BUT I could never find either cake flour or bread flour at my local Shop Rite. However, yesterday I went to Price Chopper (also in my town but I rarely go there) and checked out the baking aisle, and viola! They had both. So I called up the recipe on my iPhone (really getting use to that convenience) and got what I needed.

I don't think you can use regular flour and get the same result. The recipe seems a little finicky... I will see if I think the cookies are worth it.

My favorite CC cookies

are oatmeal chocolate chip. I use the recipe on the Quaker oats lid but sub chocolate chips for raisins and double the cinnamon.

You inspired me

I made cc cookies tonight because of your post. Just my regular recipe. Usually they are fantastic. They are so-so tonight. I always mix by hand, but I used my KitchenAid mixer tonight. The dough was pretty soft. I should have refrigerated (I did for about 10 minutes after getting the first batch in the oven).

Oh well, the family seems to be able to choke them down. ;)

Suzy, you know, I have trouble with my cookies being very flat and I wonder if it is because I use my KitchenAid mixer (maybe it overmixes the batter). I will try to do it by hand next time.

Your poor, poor family! :D (Is your DS home from college, having to deal with your home-cooking instead of dorm fare?)

Please post and let us know how they turn out. I don't bake as much as I used to but would be tempted to try these :)
