Homeworkopoly?

Anyone use this homework/behavior management system in your classroom? If so, what are the pros and cons? Any suggestions for making it work smoothly? Is it time efficient? Do the children lose interest? I am thinking of trying it out now for the end of this year to see how it would work for September. Any ideas?

Homeworkopoly

I have used it this year. It started out to be great. I have several students that could run it for me. As the year wore on - students began to get sloppy with homework. It has to be more than bringing it in. I think it is a great thing and will do it again next year.

I got a big colored red display board (like science fair type), ran the board and cold-laminated it so it was durable. I mounted it on the back of a book shelf that had raised board strips so the gameboard was not attached stapled right to book case. I use clothespins for game markers and it works great.

Enjoy it!

what is homeworkoploy?

Please tell me more about this. It sounds interesting. My school is out tomorrow but it might be something I could use in the fall.

Homeworkopoly

I have used Homeworkopoly for the past three years. My students absolutely love itFirst, you should know that I work at a very low income school. I assign homework every night, however students do not receive grades nor do they receive punishment for not doing their homework. I use Homeworkopoly once a week on Friday. The students who completed all of their homework for the week get to play. They LOVE it! It is motivation for my kiddos to get their homewrok done. Most of them don't have parental help at home. I copiedme board off of homeworkopoly.com. It works just like the real game with a school twist. I made my own reward cards. Some of mine are; sit at the teacher's desk for one hour, use the teacher's chair for one hour, write with ink for the whole day, bring in a treat to share with the class, choose a game for P.E., get a snack at recess, receive 5 tickets for the drawing, and get a juice for lunch. I know that the game was meant to be played everyday, but my kids are perfectly happy playing once a week. I hopes this helps!

homeworkopoly

I placed mine on a bullentin board and made some changes. I took out the brain space and added computer time. I made a few other changes. I also laminated mine and placed their address on them. They love landing on their street. I play it on fridays too. I take attendance with a homework chart and on friday I can tell who did their homework and who did not. If they were absent they just try again next week. I also added to the cards. Free eraser head, lolly pop, etc. My students love this game.I placed two tacks on each space and bought small white round tags with roundhooks? I placed their names on them and they move around the bullentin board placing their tag on their spot. I also bought a huge stuffed die for them to roll on the floor :)

I use it

I heard about it on this board and have been using it for two years now. I, too, teach in a low income school and my kids love it!! We play once a week and it's the only thing I do for homework. If they turn it in, and it's completely done, they get to play. I also added stuff to the cards: sweep (they love that one), play a game with a friend at recess, teacher's chair, bring a stuffed animal to have on desk, etc. I highly recommend it!

How much time does it take to play? I think I can handle doing it once a week. I am anxious to learn more about it.

Sounds Brilliant

I have got some boys who never do their homework, and this sounds like a great incentive for them to do it. Does anyone have any good rewards for boys?

I'm going to take a stab at this! I finally looked at the site with the directions and board and this would be so much fun! I'm printing it all right now.

The only thing is...I had a few students (mostly boys) last year who didn't care what I did to them when they didn't do their homework, whether it was keep them in at recess, have them call their parents, do extra work, etc. I'm just nervous that this wouldn't motivate a few kids who want to be tough. On the other hand, this is a positive reinforcer and I can see it doing wonders. I'm thinking I'll start the year off with this as my system...and if I have a few who just can't get it together, then I'll have to instituted the taking away of recess and further if it doesn't get better.
