My kitchen faucet was leaking from two places, so I decided to replace it. It was cheap and never functioned well, and it was ugly.

It took 4 trips to two different hardware stores, but I was able to figure it out (with some assistance and elbow grease from GF) and now I have a brand new nice looking faucet that doesn't leak!

I'm proud that we were able to avoid calling a plumber, and that there was no cursing involved. (Well, maybe a little muttering under my breath when I was wedged under the sink;))

Good for you. I always admire self-sufficiency. I have never replaced a faucet but I have repaired leaky faucets a few times - never without cussing, though. LOL

I did it

Congratulations!!! It’s a good feeling. Many of my small home improvement projects require several visits to hardware store, a variety not quite right tools, several bangs on the head or foot or arm, and 3 times longer than it should take.

We have an Ace Hardware nearby with THE NICEST people. They always know how to help me.

I have the choice between a big box hardware store 10 miles away (but on the same strip as my regular grocery store) or a small town hardware store 7 miles in the other direction (but on the green where the Farmer's Market happens on Sunday mornings).

Made a trip to the small store and bought a faucet, returned it and bought a different one. This was Sunday morning, and they were staffed with less experienced young people. The next day to Home Depot after my weekly grocery shopping when we discovered we needed adapters to connect the supply lines. Miraculously, a knowledgeable gentleman helped me within minutes. Unfortunately, we didn't know how to measure the size of the lines correctly so the adapters didn't fit.

Called small town hardware with questions about how to measure and availability of adapters. Left a message. Didn't hear back.

Back to small town hardware store, where the owner helped us find the correct adapters. She was great, and trained the high school kid working there how to do it as well.

I told her I had called and left a message, which she could ignore. She told me there's a gentleman who has Alzheimer's who had left more than 20 messages that day about various things ranging from tools to light bulbs to asking to speak to his (long dead) friend. She responds kindly to him, but it takes a lot of her time, so she hadn't gotten through all the messages yet. That's the small town way!:)

Now I just have to take back the ones I bought from Home Depot.

Wow, your determination is impressive, and you got the job done! Now, your kitchen tasks will be more pleasant, thanks to your new plumbing skills. Plus, water savings!

I'm impressed.

I've never done anything like that. I think there would be some kind of disaster if I did. I remember the first time DH fixed a faucet when we first got married, we woke up to a flood in the morning.

I've done

a ton of things in regards to repair/replacement in my house. I have never replaced a faucet. Good for you!! You Tube is great for how-to and repair videos. I consult it first before I do anything.

I enjoyed reading your whole experience. You are determined that's for sure! I was also thinking this is a benefit of retirement when you had the time to puzzle it all out and make several trips to the stores.
