Hi!

I was the one on the "old post" who said...

I have decided that I am done complaining about not getting a job and I am doing something about it. I sent my resume to Linda and I am going to use all her tips to get a teaching job. I plan to have a teaching job before the end of September. I am already preparing for my interviews and I have followed all her tips on how to go about getting an interview. I plan to have a fulltime job before the end of the month....and I WILL do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I would let you know that I am teaching!!! I received an offer and was teaching before the end of September. I am sorry I did not say anything sooner. I have been very busy.

Sarah, thank you for suggesting that Linda do my resume and thank you for giving me her email. I so appreciate it! After I had my resume done, I felt so confident that I would get a job.

Linda also stressed to me that "school divisions ALWAYS have openings". Teachers take mat leaves, sickness, stress leaves etc. The jobs are there. WE just need to find them.

Thanks so much for posting, Pam, was wondering what had happened! Which position did you take?

As for me, I am still plodding on. We are only in the second week (about to enter the third) of a 12 week Term here in Melbourne, Australia so there is still hope for me yet. In the meantime I am applying and revising my applicaions/resume and doing as much substitute work as I can get!

Help with resume

Hi Pam!

Everyone has been talking about getting their resumes done by "Linda" . Do you think it made a difference for you? I was thinking of emailing Sarah to get Linda's address, but I already spent $100.00 on a resume and the cover letter cost me $50.00. I could have done a better resume and cover letter myself!

My job

I ended up taking the Mat leave. It happened quicker then expected as the teacher going on Mat leave had to leave earlier due to complications. She is fine and baby is doing very well. Because of her leaving so early I ended up starting earlier then expected. Everything worked out very well for me!

I am now teaching in my dream job!

Linda's name came up in the "old boards". She had done some resumes for teachers. She does a GREAT job! I loved my resume! She asks a lot of questions about you and you feel like she knows you when she does the resume. If you would like her email, you can check the old boards. I think that is great that Linda is really good at what she does and I am not trying to be rude, but......if she is charging for her services this sounds like a bunch of commercials for her service. I do not think that this is a fair place for her to do her marketing! Lets leave this thread in the old board. Also, it is taking advantage of the desperate. It is true a good resume and cover letter are important, but nothing is more important then the interview its self and the energy you give off. The people who interview you are going to be your team and they want to know that they can work with you and learn from you too.

Hi Kali,

Linda isn't the one doing any marketing. Someone from the board commented about how great her resume was and how it helped to get her the interview. You are right that the interview gets you the job. But the only way for us to get the interview is by having a good resume. My resume was Ok before but after Linda did it, it was outstanding. I was confident that I would get an interview, and I did! Other teachers brought up her resume writing to help one another. I apologize for bringing it up, but I was so excited about getting an interview and a job that I wanted everyone to know what worked for me.

Be sensitive

I agree with Kali. Be careful how nonchalantly you tout a good resume. Kali is right about the energy you give off and working with the team. But getting hired in the education field is so much more political than the average person knows. A lot of it is "who" or how well they know you and which step you're at on the pay scale (they don't want anyone who costs too much). Our resumes are fine. Don't go spending a lot of money, it's not you, there's tons of us out here, they have their pick. We need to be sensitive to those who have worked hard, are dedicated, have all the credentials, but just haven't "clicked" with the right people. Trust me, I know.

While it is great to post about what a great job Linda does, and how grateful you are to her, please be aware that not all of us can access her services. I'm in Melbourne, Australia, and am unwilling to pay American dollars for something which ma be totally inappropriate to my needs - from my American friends who live here, I've foudn that teaching resumes differ significantly between here and the US.

Thanks too, to Kris and Kali. I am a graduate teacher who has had to spend her first year in substitute work, which, while good for experience, I haven't really enjoyed it and just want to be in a classroom of my own. I've had five interviews and while two were great (and I walked out thinking 'YES!') the school/s didn't choose me for a myriad of reasons. I, however, have faith that next year is my year, and that I'm just waiting and getting experience in the meantime.
