Make an old lady...

We read "I Know and Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat" and made an old lady with a plastic zip-loc for a stomach. Then, I made a sheet with all the different things she swalled. The children put the old lady together, colored and cut the things she swallowed and then used it to retell the story once together as a class and once at home for homework.

If you wanted to do something similar with "I know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie" I could run off the parts for you and try to figure out how to attach them to a post (do you know how to do this?). Then, all you would have to do is find clip art of the things she swallowed and print them for the kids to color and cut out.

I am goinag to use this sotry too, but since we already made an old woman I am going to have the kids make a sequencing book. So, if you do get clip art together I'd love to have a copy if you don't mind!

Oops - looks like I need to be a Junior Member to post attachments. I can e-mail you the files if you'd like to use them though!

Art

After reading that book, my students make pumpkin pie magnets.

I cut a paper plate into 6 "slices" Students paint the pointy portion orange and the crinkly portion brown. Then, they sprinkle real cinnamon on and let dry.

We attached a sticky magnet to the back and voile...pumpkin pie to hang on the fridge.
