Investing in gold

I am finally in a position financially to be able to invest a little bit, and I'm thinking of buying some gold. I'm looking specifically at a $20 gold piece from the early 1900's priced at about $750. Anyway, have any of you ever invested in gold or known anyone who has? It seems to be a sure thing, but y'all always give the best advice! Thanks!

No. stay away it has been falling as of lately. Type in IAU etf that you can purchase gold and not take possession thru a discount broker. I use Scotttrade. The gold party is about over and is tired.
