Hi-
I am currently a 1st grade teacher in TN. I will be moving to the Louisville, KY (actually SO. IN) area next summer. I would be so grateful if anyone out there could give me some info. on great districts to work in as well as any info. on what the need for teachers is like in that area. I am already worried about moving and looking for a new job, so anything that can give me a heads up would really be appreciated! :-) Thanks!

Jefferson County

Jefferson County (Louisville) is the largest school district in the state of Kentucky. I do not believe that you will have a difficult time at all finding work in the area. A lot of JC is urban and there is a bit of turnover. It will honestly be more difficult if you are looking to find work in a more suburban/rural area. A great school district in that area is Oldham County. They are very highly regarded in the state. Much of that district is affluent. Finding a job there might be more difficult.

But if your goal is simply to teach children, then I am positive you will find a job.

Good luck

Jefferson County Public Schools

Hi Savillia,
I teach in the JCPS district in Louisville, KY. The greatest need right now is for middle school certified teachers, but I'm sure you would get hired in elementary because it seems like there are teachers retiring left and right. Check out our district's website: www.jefferson.k12.ky.us. You can apply online and get some questions answered about our district too. By the way, we have 88 elementary schools in Jefferson County!
