I had a good day in 3rd grade today. I told the kids that I would give them each a piece of candy for being good for me...considering I had never subbed in their room before and its almost Thanksgiving. At the end of the day, I allowed them to choose a piece of candy from a small ziploc bag. After they got their candy, they could line up. I put the bag on the teacher's desk and brought the class down to the busses. When I came back up, I looked on the desk and the bag was gone!!! Someone stole my bag of candy! Even though the bag was small, it was almost full!
I spent at least 10 minutes looking around the room for the candy, but didn't find it!

Some kid is gonna have a sore tongue and a stomach ache tomorrow!!
hahahahhahaha!

never!!!...

Teachers in the schools I work in look at me like i'm nuts when I ask them if its OK to give the kids candy.

They're like...go right ahead!!!

when i was student teaching, the kids couldn't have ANYTHING but these coupons for a lottery they had once a week.

Candy

What I have noticed is that classrooms that are better behaved do not offer candy as a reward, they have the money system where they can buy privileges . Classrooms where there are more disruptive kids have the candy. I myself do not like to give out candy if I can help it. That little sugar burst can cause quite a bit of ruckus.

i have only recently started with candy...

but I don't mention it at all during the day!!!!

Today I gave some candy to kids at the end of the day...we had a 1pm dismissal. It was high school home ec and the kids just had to do a worksheet. I knew they would whine and just twiddle with the sheet....so I told them that if they got it done before 1, i'd give them a piece of candy. I also told them the story about my candy being stolen! They thought it was funny.

They got the work done, got their candy and my day was good:-)

I'm only going to do this SPARINGLY. Just like I use my whistle sparingly on rowdy classrooms hahahaha!!!
