Literature Circles and incomplete assignments

What do you do with students who don't do their literature circle assignment? I sometimes think they like not having to join their group.

Literature Circles

I have made up a packet where the child is responsible for doing all of the jobs. Instead of joining the group, they have to sit by themselves and work on the packet. The directions clearly state that the packet was given because they chose not to do the original assignment and that it is to be completed as homework. Most children would much rather be in the group than do all of the jobs by themselves, hope this helps.
