Does anyone have any resources or ideas for MLK day? This is my first year teaching second grade and all of my first grade mini-books/activities are too young. Thanks!

MLK Play

I have a play called "Martin is Watching". It's a combination of some incidents from Rev. King's life and some fictional characters. I wrote it and have had my second graders preform it most every year. A few people messaged me about it. I'll try to attach it. If it doesn't work, I can email it to you!

What a great play to help our kiddos think about MLK Day. Thank you for sharing it with us!

I second a thank you to LuBelle. I plan on having my class practice it this week and perform it on Friday since we're off on Monday. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you so much for the play. We'll start practicing tomorrow. At the end you sing "Sing About Martin". Do you have the song to share?

Sing About Martin

It's a simple song they always sing in music class this time of the year. I'll ask our music teacher tomorrow if she has a copy that I could post!!

Thank You LuBelle

I've been looking for a reader's theater type of play today for Martin Luther King. Thank you for posting this! It's perfect...

Thank you,

LuBelle. We've recently leveled our second grade and I teach the "on level" and below. The last time we had our unit test I broke it up over several days and the students loved doing "Reader's Theater" for the remainder of the time. This one has enough parts for all in one play...and the play is great.

Found "Sing About Martin"!

My music teacher came through, as always! I appreciate all of your thanks for the play! I love to share AND I've received so many great ideas, resources, and more from this site. Loved the "leaf exchange" & the "gingerbread man exchange". Let's face it! We need each other!!!

We watch the video, Our Friend, Martin. It is a cartoon video that's about an hour long. It is excellent. I found it at our public library one year and finally talked our librarian into ordering it for us.
