Does anyone have any resources or ideas for MLK day? This is my first year teaching second grade and all of my first grade mini-books/activities are too young. Thanks!
I have a play called "Martin is Watching". It's a combination of some incidents from Rev. King's life and some fictional characters. I wrote it and have had my second graders preform it most every year. A few people messaged me about it. I'll try to attach it. If it doesn't work, I can email it to you!
I second a thank you to LuBelle. I plan on having my class practice it this week and perform it on Friday since we're off on Monday. Thank you so much for sharing.
LuBelle. We've recently leveled our second grade and I teach the "on level" and below. The last time we had our unit test I broke it up over several days and the students loved doing "Reader's Theater" for the remainder of the time. This one has enough parts for all in one play...and the play is great.
My music teacher came through, as always! I appreciate all of your thanks for the play! I love to share AND I've received so many great ideas, resources, and more from this site. Loved the "leaf exchange" & the "gingerbread man exchange". Let's face it! We need each other!!!
We watch the video, Our Friend, Martin. It is a cartoon video that's about an hour long. It is excellent. I found it at our public library one year and finally talked our librarian into ordering it for us.
