may I vent?

Wow, I just need to get this off my chest...The district where I sub is great, but we use the online thing to find jobs! One day I checked it every 1/2 hour and there was nothing. Yesterday I checked it at 5:30AM and found a job. I just recently finished subbing steady for a specialty teacher and can sub in other positions as well. I guess I was spoiled going to a steady job for several months and now have to constantly search for work. Also, the highschool teacher in my specialty area called me because he assumed that I would see his post to be off before anyone else and he would get me in for him...but it doesn't work like that. I never saw his post and someone without that background picked it up. Hopefully he will call me before he calls off and we can both be online at the same time so I will get it...the other day I received a call for middle school, I accepted it and I was cut off. I went to internet and found that I did not get it!!! I spoke to my cousin who works in the Admin office and she said that it probably was posted online and calling at the same time, so someone else nabbed a second before me!!! A lot of the subs are complaining about this. My own kids go to school in this district so I have not figured out how I will sub in other districts when I need to get my own children on the bus. I have no one to get them on the bus at this point and working in the district I can take them to school with me..I'm sorry this is so long. I was also spoiled coming from teaching at a private school for several years but the pay was VERY low and making ends meet was getting tougher each year, so I went "public" which has been very rewarding (when I am teaching).
Anyone else have this problem with the online system in their districts? I think we subs deserve better pay and we deserve other teachers to treat us decently even if they are having a bad day. No matter what my day is like, I never let it ruin my relations with fellow workers, it's just not right.
Thanks for letting me vent, sorry if I sounded like a whiner. My hubby doesn't get it and all my other friends aren't teachers so they don't quite understand.
This was too long...sorry.

I feel your pain...

Don't worry about your post being too long. Sometimes we just need to talk about this stuff to SOMEONE. My husband doesn't understand and doesn't want to hear it either. I also don't have close teacher friends I can talk with or vent to. That's why this board is so helpful! I love it. :)

Can't your teachers request you? In my district the teachers request me; then the computer system calls me first before it is even posted. I'd ask about that if I were you. Then make sure all your favorite teachers are requesting YOU and not just posting their absences for anyone to nab. Good lluck.

I agree with Mrs. Monica!

Hope you can ask someone so you get pre-arranged jobs! Its better than trying to mess with phone systems and computers...AGGRiVAting!
Good luck to you!

Thanks!

I was asked by several teachers for my phone number (I gave them my email also) because I taught their classes when I was subbing steady in the specialty area, but none of them have called yet. These teachers are ones that don't miss alot of school either...but they want someone in who knows their kids already. I don't know, I have heard of subs who have set their computers to sound an alarm when a job posts but I'm not that computer savy, but I will try to see if I can do that , too.
Thank you both for your input. It made me feel much better!
