I love the naked turkey project that was posted on PT. My questions are when do you send it home? When should it be due back in school?

Any time

I wanted mine back early so that I could put them up in the school so they are due the first week of November. I sent them out a week ago. Last year I gave them a week or two to do them at home.

Naked Turkey project

I made them due last week so that it could be decorating my outside wall for Halloween (disguise) and for Thanksgiving. This was my first time doing this, I sent both the naked turkey and the turkey to be done at home. Some parents really had fun with it and they look amazing! I think next year I will still send the naked turkey to be disguised at home but maybe I will have the kids do the writing at school. Great project!

Naked Turkey writing at home?

I am sending mine home on Monday and giving them two weeks to do it, so I can use them to decorate my hallway for the bulk of November.

This is my first year doing this and I have seen quite a few posters say that in the future they will have the students do the writing in school as opposed to at home. May I ask why? My students are pretty low (4 have NO knowledge of letter sounds at all) and struggle greatly with writing/spelling. Every time we do a writing activity, I spend a ton of time spelling words for the students. I feel like the work would be better if they did it at home with one-on-one help from an adult. What do you guys think about this? Recommendations from teachers that have done this before would be much appreciated! This is my first year in 1st grade and I'm a bit lost :)

Thanks!

4th grade

I'm adapting this project to my 4th grade class. I'm sending it home this Monday and it'll be due on Friday. I'm having them decorate the turkey at home and complete a sloppy copy of their writing at home, then we'll do the final writing copy in class. That way, I can check over their writing one last time and help them in class if needed. I'm excited to see how they all turn out! I did an example turkey and turned mine into a clown...very cute! I'm just hoping the kids will be really creative!

Typo in letter

Thank you all for your ideas. Just wanted you to know that in the letter to parents there is a typo. Newspaper adds should read newspaper ads.
