Not ready

I've been out for 2 days. I thought I was ready to be back with my students. Nope.

• Yesterday's sub was a mess and the room is also a mess
• Right before school was the perfect time for the guy to work on the copier
• Kids are a hot mess. Big time.
• And I'm really cranky. I'm not handling any of that well.

Adding....yep. I just wrote a note about a kid's work with me one-on-one. All I wrote was "nonsense" and moved on the the next kid. Deep calming breaths.

Geez, I was in a bad mood
It's November of 1st grade. The kid was supposed to read a list of words to me. We had just worked on the word am and he said some mumbled something that wasn't even a word. The next word was at. He said "T." Obviously there is a lot going on with that kid. And I couldn't handle that at the moment.
Apparently kids in general were bonkers around here today. Maybe it was the rain!

I've noticed that, for me, it's at the point in the year where any excuses kids might have had for "getting into the swing of things" or maybe not knowing the expectations are gone. It's November. I need to see that they're trying. Sometimes it's nonsense.
