I have taught 3rd grade for 10 years, but I am being evaluated for my 5 year evaluation. I would like to have some modern lesson plan instead of
the same ole same ole.

If you have any great ideas on how to teach main idea and supporting
details, I would appreciate them. As we know this is a difficult topic anyway. Thanks.

Are you teaching finding the main idea in a passage or writing a main idea paragraph with supporting details?

I want to first work on finding the main idea and supportive details in a
passage and then introduce them in writing.

This site has some lesson ideas for paragraphs and topic sentences with printables. When I do this, I like to also use a graphic of a table. The main idea goes on the tabletop and the legs that "support" the main idea have the supporting sentences on them.
