Ouch!!!!!!!!!

Today is the first time I have been able to get back to the boards since Sunday due to my crazy luck.
My husband and I were busy splitting wood for next winter. He cut the pieces into logs and I used the log splitter and stacked them. Now, I should tell you that we have been doing this for the last 18 years and I have never even had a splinter before.
Well, I can't say that anymore. I was working away and I don't know what happened. SOmehow I place my hand in the back of a log instead of in front. My finger was caught between the bar that hold the log and the log. I was pulling down the hydrolic wedge when I felt a pinch Then it was a huge pinch. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!
I ended up crushing my middle finger on my left hand. I think I was in shock at first. I just stood there. My husband yelled over what is wrong. I said I think we need to go to the hospital. When I turned around and showed him my finger, he turned white as a sheet.
We turned off the machinery and jumped in the car. ( My kids were reluntantly sent to my inlaws.)
We sat for 5 1/2 hours in the er waiting to see a doctor. When we arrived there, the triage nurse put on a bandage ad gave me an ice pack. She told me there were a few ahead of me. Then within a short period of time, there were 4 car accidents brought in by ambulance.
We ended up having them refill the ice pack 7 times. Then my angel appeared. The nurses changed shifts and I saw Angie. I taught her students in the past. SHe got me back to see a doctor within 10 minutes.
The dicotr took xryas and said, it was broke. No kidding. I could have told him that without going to medical school. He set it the best he could and told me to see an orthopedic surgeon the next day. He sent me home with an antibiotic and predizone.
The next morning, my husband took a vacation day to take me to the doctor, etc. We took the girls to school and I went to my room to prepare my plans for a sub. Of course, al of my fellow teachers thaught I was crazy worrying about my plans.
The orthopedic surgeon checked out the finger and did minor surgury in his office. I had some tendon damage.

To make this long story come to an end, I went to school Tuesday and today and I survived. I am right handed so I thought I wouldn't miss my right hand that much. Wrong! Even if only the one findger wa hurt, everytime I move anypart of that hand, ouch. Life has been challenging the last few days but, I will survive.
The bright side of all of this is that I can use my Aflac. I bought into it this year because my husband always seems to have some type of accident. Who would have thought I would be using it.

Marie from PA

PS- Please excuse the typos, it took me 30 min. to type this one handed. I can't wait to see the doctor next Monday and see when I might get to use this hand again.

Ouch is right!

Glad everything seems to be ok (considering). My father-in-law lost part of finger in a wood splitting accident. :o

Needless to say, I don't like it when my husband (or father-in-law) use the wood splitter.

Take care of yourself and rest! I hope you get good news next Monday. :)
