Overseeing Non-Profit Private Schools

I have been trying to find out what entity or body oversees non-profit private schools (NOT universities). Someone told me the Board of Regents but I believe that is just for higher education. My co-workers and I would like to find out more about the money funneling in and out of our school, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?

More information?

I think I might need more information about what you're looking for, but maybe I can answer your question, since I work in a private school. Accredited schools will answer to the accrediting organization (NAIS, SACS, etc.) or the board of directors. The board of directors is where I would start, and that's just the board set up/elected at your school.
