Picture books
Are you tying these in with anything in particular? I have dozens of picture books in my personal library. I don't let the kids read them, because I use them to illustrate certain elements of writing (voice, word choice, ideas, etc.). After I read and discuss them, then the kids are welcome to read them again.
Anything by Byrd Baylor, Patricia Polacco, Jane Yolen, and Cynthia Rylant are wonderful.
