My daughter took this teacher certification in MS yesterday. She said"it was the easiest most difficult test I've taken"! I think she is worried that she ran short of time. She answered all the questions (multiple choice and written) but is concerned her answers may not have been as organized as she would have liked. She stated that no one finished before the end of time and the other student from her college did not finish. She is worried and dreading the next six weeks for the results to arrive. Since I have never taken this test I don't know what to say. Any advice?

Which praxis?

When I took the first praxis I left feeling very unsure and nervous as I felt the multple choice questions could have had various answers! On the second praxis that I took, I felt a little more confident because I studied A LOT but I still felt very unsure. I think that it's natural to feel unsure...tell your daughter everyone feels that way! I am sure she did just fine...I don't know anyone who didn't score well.

Tell her that

her feelings are so normal. I was a basket case after I took all the different tests! Let her know that it will be okay and she shouldn't worry about it.

If you are talking about the PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching), which I believe is Praxis 2, please know that many people don't finish the case studies on the test. I took it 3 years ago, and afterwards learned that many people who took it with me on that day didn't even get to the last case study. The good news is that everyone I know has passed it, even without completing it. The only way to get through the test in the time alloted is to bullet the case studies, rather than write complete sentences in paragraph form (essay style). If I remember correctly, the directions even suggest bulleting or listing. I don't believe they will score her test on it's organization; they are simply looking for specific information that she might have included. I'm sure she did better than she thinks. Check into finding out her score early. If I remember correctly, I made a phone call after paying a fee and found out my score over the phone (maybe 2 weeks earlier than the scores that are mailed out).

Thanks

Well I feel better reading your replies. Thanks. After googling the test it seems that taking this test gives a better opportunity to transfer your teaching certificate from state to state.

I hope she did well! I took it recently (the "new" state would not take my "old" state cert without it- argh) and was not sure how I did at all. I did finish the entire test (but finished just as time was up!) writing in paragraphs, but I am a really fast writer, and I still felt my organization was not very good.

Turns out, I scored high enough to get a special certificate. I never would have thought that based on how I felt after the test-- I just wanted to pass! I am sure she did well!! Hope these 6wk go fast for her! :)
