I am preparing for the Reading Specialist Praxis Test. If anyone has taken this test and share any information concerning what to study, I'd appreciate it!

tough

Are you taking it to become a Reading Specialist? We had to take it as part of our certification. It's long and hard! If you have a solid background in reading instruction it shouldn't be too bad. I did one practice test and probably more practice would've helped. I passed for the certification standards but not high enough to be a Reading Specialist. I wish you luck!

That's what I'm afraid of

I am taking to become certified as a Reading Specialist. I am about half way through my master's degree courses in reading. Other than my classes I do not have a 'strong' reading background and I've been searching for anything that would point me in the right direction as far as preparing for the test. It seems there isn't a sure way to prepare!

Reading Specialist Praxis II

I've taken the Praxis four times, bought all the various Praxis Study Guides. Like you I've searched throughout the internet for information to pass. I finally came up with my own study guide and flash card, and finally passed.

Books not to buy Reading Specialist from NLC. The question in this study guide are old and wrong. Don't buy other online paperback study guide there just trying to make money and they too have misinformed information.

Do buy Beat Them All. By Chris Nicholas Boosalis. I also used Arizona AEPA-Elementary (Reading portion) practice questions, RICA practice question (there is 60 so this is a great practice timed test). Oklahoma OPTE/OSAT practice test, Texas TExES practice test is very good. Colorado PLACE--reading specialist test. All of these practice test come from Beating Them All on pg. 2 (and there is more state reading practice test that you could study from). This book gives great overview of the reading concepts you need to know.

This book however doesn't go over vocabulary word and various testing material you need to know. I took a study class and I was given a list of vocabulary/ key\terms that you need to know. I believe the vocabulary and key terms were the most helpful. It cover pretty much everything that was on the test. I started typing it out, but it became to long of a project. If anyone wants these key terms I can scan it on my computer and upload it on the wed page. Just let me know. Good Luck!
