I am in my mid-twenties and I remember when I was in kindergarten my teacher used to play these records that had songs and we had to follow directions given by the singer. It's pretty vague but I've looked online and can't find anything. I want to purchase some record albums that teachers in kindergarten would use, that aren't story albums or nursery rhymes. Any ideas??? I can search better if I have some titles on someone knows someone else who is retiring after teaching kindergarten for 30 years or so... :-) Thanks for any help you can give!

Ella Jenkins

When I taught pre-school, we used records by Ella Jenkins. They were all about movement, so there were directions through her songs. Hope this helps! What a thoughtful friend are you!

Are you thinking of...

Hap Palmer records? I taught preschool 20 years ago, which is just about the time you were in kindergarten (yuk...I am OLD :( ...actually, I was just out of college then!) but I remember using his albums a lot. I recently saw some at our Parent-Teacher Store and I stood there reminiscing....so they are still around.:s)

Probably Hap Palmer

They were probably Hap Palmer recordings, which you should still be able to find. Greg & Steve albums have some songs that give directions, like "Shapes," but their stuff is more movement and singing oriented and may not have been around yet when you were in kindergarten. I'm assuming you aren't really looking for records. CD's are much more user-friendly and sound better.

West Music has a huge collection of this material available and has a great on-line catalog. Some of the albums are also available, with songs listed, in the standard teacher-supply catalogs found in every school.

Hap Palmer

Hap Palmer recordings are avaliable on cassette and CD now. Just check with your local teacher supply store, they should be able to get them for you. I work at a teacher supply store here in FL and we carry them. They are still popular.

Yep, Hap Palmer! I'm right there with you Carrie. I used these when I taught preschool as well--which was about 20 years ago--YIKES!! Just didn't think about that until you mentioned it. The Tree Fell Down was one of their favorites!
