scheduling..just curious

I was just wondering about other 3rd grade schedules...How much time do you spend on each subject? Do you teach science and social studies everyday? Do you teach handwriting everyday? Do you have AR time or Self-selected reading daily? I just wanted to compare schedules...
This is what our schedule looks like:
7:30-8:00-children arrive, morning work
8:00-9:30-reading, spelling, handwriting
12:30-1:20-snack and PE
1:20-2:30-social studies/science
We alternate social studies and science every few weeks.

daily schedule

My days are never the same! I have at least one special a day, sometimes 2 but they are not at the same time during the week!

In general, I teach religion (I'm in a k - 8 Catholic School), language arts and math in the mornings.

The afternoons are set aside for social studies / science. I am not able to teach those each day due to the specials schedule. So, I do try to teach one of those areas twice a week and the other one once. Then, the folllowing week I switch so that it can be as balanced as possible.

Reading First

I use the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program. We are a "Reading First" school. It has to do with NCLB-a lovely bill:-( Anyway, we are required to do like 2 hours of reading a day, then there's that hour of math. The following is my schedule:

8:00-8:30 Dol/Daily Math
8:30-9:40 Language Arts (reading)
9:40-10:00 Recess
10:00-10:30 Spelling (Word Work)
10:30-11:00 Grammar
11:00-11:55 Math
12:00-12:45 Lunch
12:45-1:30 Social Studies/Science(alternate every 2-3 weeks)
1:30-1:50 Recess
1:50-2:25 Universal Access (anything pertaining to the Houghton Mifflin program) could do centers, remediation-as long as it's L.A. Cursive and journal are usually done here
2:25-2:35 Clean up, go home

There's no time to teach anything other than L.A. and Math. The kids have to pass the tests ya know-Grrrrr

Why are you spending so little time on AR? Ar should be a solid 30-45 min daily. Give it a try.
