Well, here I am again...sick and still here at school. I've had bronchitis since Thursday night and was already out Friday, and it sounds like all you-know-what broke out in my room while I was out, so here I am today, feeling awful. Why do we as teachers do this to ourselves?

And to top it off...

One of the assistant principals stops me in the hall this morning and tells me he had several of my students in his office Friday, and said (in a very accusing tone) "They have evidently been doing lots of things behind your back!" What exactly does he want me to do about that? He has known all year that I have a rough group - this shouldn't be a shock to him or anything. I just looked at him, thought of all the things I WANTED to say, and said, "Yes, I understand Friday was a rough day," and kept walking.

Since when ...

are hades classes the fault of the teachers. Most of the class lists we create in June are not even close to what we get in September. Kids are shoved in groups using the numbers game all summer and then we are supposed to deal with what ever mix pops out. I got 80 percent of my troublemakers by transfers. My kids have destroyed two subs. I'm going to take a day or 2 in the spring to go to a conference and spend the day with adults. Getting sick and or working sick because they are such brats doesn't pay. If Admin get enough crap maybe they will start to support teachers and not every crazy parent whim that comes their way. We care about others and what others think of us. We project their bad behaviors on us. 90 percent of behavior problems stem from home not school. The better teacher you are, the worse kids you get. I wish it wasn't true.

Sick

We are FINALLY sending a note home with the kids that says NOT to send them to school sick! The faculty is dropping like flies, because the kids come to school deathly sick. So the admin is already on notice if the teachers need a day off. Of course its the same parents who don't want to keep their kids home that get upset when their kid comes home and tells them that they had a sub today. Figures!

Sub plans are a joke

What sub follows your plans any way??? I usually do a schedule and i have a IA so usually I either get another IA in the room or a warm body. My sub plans are rarely used and I keep them on the computer so that they are easily accessable.
I would rather go in than get ready for a sub.

Been out 2 days.

I have been out for the past 2 days. I started getting sick on Saturday, and it got worse as the days went by. Monday was a holiday, and yesterday I felt horrible. This morning I actually felt guilty for taking another day off. I got over it, and feel much better. Hopefully my classroom is not torn apart, and my kids didn't lose their minds.

Fortunate

I took a sick day last thursday, then got sick again saturday and was worried about taking off Monday. Well I stayed out 3 days. When I found out who my sub was I called off early for the next day hoping that they would leave the same sub in, and did it again wed. My plan is to go tomorrow, but one of the medications the dr gave me made me sick tonight.
The staff in my building encourage each other to stay home if your sick. A lot of them are young with small kids and don't want to take anymore chances taking something home. Luckily I have a sympathetic principal. :)

Out of days

I have used all five of my sick days. Our staff is dropping like flies also. Parents continue to give the kids meds hoping they'll make it till noon and then tell them to stick out the rest of the day. I am so tired of working ill. I don't know why we do this to ourselves.

sick, too!

Nearly all of my class is sick, and so am I! Of course state testing begins on Monday. SOOOOO, I sent the sickest home today in hopes that the barely sick will get better, not worse. Our school often looks at the sick one, calls home, gets no reply, sends the kid back. I told them today that I couldn't afford a whole room of sickies for next week and to keep them out of my room.
My daughter got pink eye because one of her classmates came to school with it, another was sent in for an entire week with a fever! To top it all off, we have had an outbreak of HEAD LICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH!

used to do that

Well, I used to do that. I know one reason is because we hate to leave our children in the hands of others. We feel more in charge and comfortable with them in our own hands. Also, it's a pain to do sub plans.

I now try to take a day off when I'm feeling sick. I took off last Friday, because I woke up during the night feeling awful. I called in for a sub at midnight, because I didn't think I could make it through the day.

I hope you're feeling better now.
