When I student taught my class gave me a canvas bag they all signed.

I've also received a vase with signatures and a canvas "director's chair" that a mom puff painted my name across the back and all the kids signed the seat.

I think a gift certificate to a teacher store or a place like Target would be very useful, too.

We did the canvas bag too except we used fabric paint and had them each put their thumb print on it and wrote their name under it. Then the kids donated stickers, rulers, office supplies to fill the bag.

Photo BOok

How about a small photo book, with pictures of the kids (making sure all the kids can have their photo taken). Perhaps a small book, that the kids can put together, "memories of our student teacher", and have the kids write down some memorable moments..

Have the kids thumbprint flowers (daisies) on a flower pot and write their first names on the stems or in the leaves. Light blue, yellow, red, and white paints look the best. Use a green paint marker to make the stems and the leaves and a black one to write their names. Cover entire pot with modge podge or other sealer so that the paint doesn't wash/chip off.) This looks real cute on a terracotta flower pot. Give her a plant in it too and she'll have it for her first classroom. ( I make these for my class moms at the end of the year.)

Have the children write a letter about how she helped them and mention events/trips/school assemblies she was with them for, wish her good luck, of have them give their on "helpful hints" How to be a great teacher when she has her own class! Then have them draw a picture for her to go beside the letter. You can even add a small photo of each child to each of their letters. Mount on construction paper and laminate the pages, put a class photo on the first page, bind into a book, and it looks adorable. I received one when I was student teacher. I still have it!

Put together a basket of supplies she could use for her new classroom. I think this sort of gift eases some anxiety as a new teacher of "not having anything to start with." (Or send a note home asking parents to donate some supplies and you add in the "teacher stuff") (Chalk- colored, white and yellow, erasers, wipe off markers, stapler, tape dispender, paper clips, staples, box of sharpie markers, post its, advil, mug, man magents to hold things on chalkboard, a wooden calendar object for her desk or other novelty teacher store item, a bell, a timer, a stress ball, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, sentence strips, name tags, an EZ Grader, stickers, ink pads, stampers, incentive chart pads, book marks, birthday certificates/pencils, awards, etc.) Of course a gift certificate is always nice too.

The book: 32 Third Graders and 1 Class Bunny by Phillip Done. It is HYSTERICAL!!! I love that book.

Gift Idea

One of my favorite gifts I received was a scrapbook which contained a picture of each student with a letter they wrote to me. The letters were adorable...they mentioned some of the topics I taught and each one wished me well in the future. Whenever I am having a challenging day, I look bad at those letters and remember the difference I made and the lives I touched.

Thanks

Thanks for all the great ideas! I have my camera out now and will get pictures ready for a scrapbook with letters. Also thinking about a couple more ideas as money and time allow.

I was a student teacher about two years ago and I love what my coop teacher gave me. She and a mother helper created an apron that I could use in my classroom for painting projects or any other project that was messy. The kids all signed the apron and then created a book for me with pics of the kids and things they wrote me about why I was a good teacher. I truly treasure both items.

Gift Idea

When I student taught, my co-op sent letters home with the kids. They secretly brought in "teacher" items like post-its, rubberbands, paperclips, tape dispencers, clipboards, stickers, stamps....and so on. They made the bag, just like the other poster said, and then they came up and put all the items in the bag. It was real sweet. She also gave me a 'poem' that went along with specific items in the bag....like "rubber bands, so you always remember to be fexible with your students". It was very sweet, and I'll remember them for always.

Hope this helps!

Student teacher gift

I had a "shower" for my student teacher complete with cake and punch. The children all brought small things to fill a tote bag for a new teacher. Pens, pencils, markers, paper clips, stickers etc.. were sent for her. :)

I am a first year teacher. When I finished my student teaching last spring, I got a basket full of "teacher stuff." Each student brought in a little somehting, pens, pencils, post-its, ect. And the teacher supplemented it. It was a great gift.

I got a book titled "Youve Had a HAND in our learning" Each page was the handprint of one of my students that they had traced and decorated and written things they had learned from me around the edges. My teacher even did one! It was all bound together very nice. I also got a nice thing of bubble bath

My friend's daughter received a book written by the class as a gift. As she was engaged to be married, each child gave marriage advice and illustrated it. She loved it.
You could also take pictures of each child and place each on a separate page. The student could write something on this page about the student teacher.
