I finished "A Million Little Pieces" last night and I'm dying for another gripping book to read now! Please give me any suggestions of your favorite book you have read recently. Thanks!

Her new book is called, S Is For Silence. I haven't read it yet, but my name is on the waiting list at the library. I've read all her other books though. Also- the review I read about it said that "S" is one of her better books. I'll find out- but I know I've liked them all so far.

another James Frey book

I haven't read it.... but I saw in Books A Million yesterday that James Frey has another book out called "My friend, Leonard"

I read "A Million Little Pieces" also and couldn't put it down... this is supposed to be about the guy named Leonard in that book.

I loved "A Million Little Pieces"!! I would suggest "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccoult. It's hard to put down! Also, I've recently read a couple by an author with the last name Sloane (or just Sloan? I think her first name is Susan)...they were called "Guilt by Association" and "Act of God". Also, I really like Kristin Hannah, although her books aren't what I would call gripping, just good stories.

"Northern Lights" by Nora Roberts. Suspense in Alaska in Roberts style. Gotta love Nora Roberts.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions! I am going today to the book store and have written down the books you mentioned so I can take a look at each of them. I'm especially excited about the new James Frey book...I had no idea he had another one out! Happy New Year!

My Friend Leonard

I just finished it. You will love it if you loved "A Million Little Pieces." It is a continuation of what happened to James when he got out of rehab. I found it to be just as engaging and a real page turner. What an interesting writing style he has! Frey is really talented. Enjoy it!

Authors

I tend to like books that focus on people's relationships with each other and how their experiences/feelings affect their actions. I really like Jodi Picoult (another poster already mentioned her). "My Sister's Keeper" is very good, but my favorite of her books is "The Pact". I also like Carol Goodman, Donna Tartt, and Wally Lamb.

One older book I read recently that I would highly recommend is "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith.

Nicolas Sparks

I have been a huge fan of his forever. My husband got me his latest book (at first sight) for Christmas and I can't wait to read it. I went to start it but apparently I am behind because the book True Believer introduces the characters. So I have to go out and get that one. I have read all of the Left Behind Series. Wonderful!

Hi Bethany,

Let us know what you end up getting. Great post, it is fun seeing what other people are enjoying. I am looking forward to reading Sue Grafton's new book, and I'll have to check out 'Northern Lights'. That sounds great as well.

Right now I am enjoying 'Middlesex' which my son got me for Christmas. He also got me 'The Other Boleyn Girl', which I hear is good, but haven't started yet.

I found 'The Kite Runner' an excellent read, but sometimes pretty heavy reading.

quick reads

Unfortunately, I'm a sucker for YA novels (I think it's the lack of attention span from my kiddos that keeps me from thicker books). "The City of Ember" and "The People of Sparks" are two of my recent favorites. "Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy" was excellent -- I cried at the end. "The House of the Scorpion" was creepy and good. Right now I'm trying to get through Kozol's latest, but my friend just loaned me the first book from her new favorite series "Gregor the Overlander."

Drum Roll~~~~~

The book I just had to run out and get was the sequel to "A Million Little Pieces." When I heard there was another book from Frey, the author, I HAD to get it. My hubby and I had to go eat at my in-laws, so as soon as we were done, I ran to Target before they closed and got it! I will have this read in about 3 days and then will go find another book that was mentioned on this thread. Thanks for all the suggestions!

not mind-expanding

but if you are looking for some good easy reading try "Shoot the Moon" by Billie Letts(?). She's the same person that wrote Where the Heart Is.

I also read Valley of the Dolls over Christmas. It was interesting:)

Fortune is a Woman is a fantastic book, but I cannot remember who it is written by. I stayed up all night just to finish it.

Keep it coming with the suggestions, my dad is in the hospital (again!) and I like easy reading while I am there.

Anything by James Patterson

I love James Patterson books. They're suspenseful and difficult to put down. My recent favorites by him are "The Beach House" and "Lifeguard."

Grisham book?

I didn't realize John Grisham had another book out. I always read his books...He's pretty consistently entertaining and I love lawyer stuff and mysteries. What is the name of his new one?
