I recently graduated from a 4 year college in Missouri with a major in Marketing. The thing is I really dont like the jobs in my career, and one career that I picture myself really enjoying is being a elementary school teacher. Can someone give some information on:

do i have to go back to school and take 2 years worth of teaching classes?

it depends

You need to look into different college of ed programs. I know one in our state (Florida) offers a 1 year master's where you intern during the day and take a full load of classes at night. One of my co-workers did it and liked the results.

I did it the old-fashioned way of a full-time job and night classes for 2 years. It was worth every effort -- I love teaching!

I don't know if you are willing to relocate. Here in Texas there is a great need for teachers in certain areas. Check the following link to get more information on how to become a certified to teacher through this teacher fellow program this summer. http://www.texasteachingfellows.org/Teaching_In_DallasAustin_Teaching_Jobs_Texas.asp

Hope this helps you.

In Missouri Also. . .

Hi, I graduated in 2001 with a 4-year degree in English/PR and decided to go back for my BSE in January of 2004--I just graduated in December 2005---so yes, for me it took a full 2 years to complete (each semester was a full load also). But really it flew by and I have talked with my husbands cousin who opted for the "short" program with a smaller college and he has no clue what I am talking about most of the time when it comes to strategies and techniques taught in my program. I guess I feel like I received a more complete education by taking the longer route.
