Teaching fractions

(I know I posted this in the student teacher section, but there seems to be more activity over here)


I have to teach adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators in the same lesson as changing fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 to decimals. Any ideas on how to relate the two? Please help!

fractions/money

I have taught fractions using money to support the value of each fraction. Such as 1/4 equals 0.25 cents, 1/2 equals 0.50 cents. It is amazing how money changes student's thoughts on fractions. I hope this will give you some ideas.
