Book or Donation
I usually dontate a book to our school's media center in honor of my room mom each year. I write a nice thank you note and include a copy of the bookplate in the card. If I know that they have a favorite charity/cause, I'll make a donation to that instead.

I had such a wonderful room mom a few years ago. I gave her a basket full of goodies - a piece of chocolate, bubble bath, shower gel, Kenny G CD, etc... I told her to spend her summer relaxing after doing so much to help me all year.
I don't have a room mom this year, but I'd do the same thing if I did.

Homeroom Moms
This is my 4th year of teaching, and this is the first year that I have been truly blessed with...not one...but two great homeroom moms! I'm planning to get them both a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant, and put it inside a nice thank you note. In addition, I am working on a video slide show that has pictures of my class from the entire school year. It is going to be set to music, and I'll burn it to a DVD. I'm planning to give each of them a copy of that as well.

Bamagirl - how do you set it to music? That's such a great idea, but I don't know how to do that music part. I thought about making a DVD for my grandma, since she lives several states away, so it would come in handy for that as well.

I have a video editing program called Ulead Videostudio 8. I bought it a couple years ago. I do all my editing in this program, and it is very easy to use.
I upload my music from my CDs into the Ulead editing program. From there, I just drag and drop the songs I want into the timeline on my video. If the songs are too long or if I only want to use part of the song, you just crop off the part you don't want.

See if you have Windows Movie Maker on your computer. On my computer, I go to Start...Programs...Accessories...Windows Movie Maker. I know this program can be used to edit videos, so you might try it. I wanted a program with a lot more options (more transitions, setting up chapter points on DVDs, etc), so that's why I purchased the Ulead program.

I try to capture the mom and her child working together during the year and give her an enlarged framed photo. This gift has been very well received over the years.
